Quite a Random Conversation

The other day, I was having a random discussion on facebook with my friend Cassidy (shout out!). We covered a plethora of topics in the short time we talked. One of the things we talked about was how one of her friends was trying to get her to work at The Tilted Kilt, a restaurant in Lincoln. I went to the website and told her she shouldn't get a job there because she'd have to be tan all the time, and I didn't want her to use a tanning booth and risk getting skin cancer.

She said, "Yeah, I don't wanna use a tanning booth. I wish I was naturally tan and skinny. Then I'd be makin bank! lol"
To which I replied, "Yeah, being pale can be hard. And all the minorities are complaining like it's not tough to be white! lol"

And we laughed, and laughed. We decided we should write a strongly worded letter about it, but ain't nobody got time fo dat! So this is as close as it's gonna get!

So, take note: being pale can be hard too. I get made fun of on a regular basis for being white, but mostly for being very, very pale. It probably happens more often to me than most pale people because I live in a predominantly Hispanic part of Omaha (South O rules!!!!!).

In conclusion, it's not our fault we're so white. It's just our genetic makeup. Going in, nobody decides what color they're going to be, so back up off. Also, South Omaha is the best Omaha, no question about it! I have no regrets :)

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah!

So, I'm sorry I titled this post with an outdated Parent Trap reference, but I just can't help myself!

Anyway....
What we really need in Omaha is a true spirit of community. What better way to spread the love than by organizing some kind of free event? Of course, we'll have to wait until the weather might be willing to cooperate (ie. spring), but there's nothing else stopping us. This post will act as a small planning hub to those who would like to get together.

I'm thinking we should plan something along the lines of a big potluck-type barbecue. Everyone brings a side dish or some finger food, some people bring tables, some people bring utensils, plates, etc. People bring their own chairs, and we all just hang out.
We could even make it a free-in!

You're probably saying, "What the hell is a free-in?" Well, I'm glad you asked! A free-in is sort of like a swap meet, except there's no buying and selling. People bring their Goodwill donation drop off stuff, set up tables, and just give it away or trade it for something else. I think that just giving things away that you no longer need really takes a load off my soul. It makes me feel better not having so much stuff.

So, we should have a giant barbecue this spring. You know it'll be fun, so you should go ahead and start helping me plan! Now go down in the comments and post some suggestions. Let's get this thing started :)

P.S. If you understood the reference to The Parent Trap, you get +3 cool people points. And by cool people points, I mean you're as lame as me!

Be gentle... It's my first time.

Hello out there!

Since this is my first post, I suppose I should address what the blog is actually going to be about. Alas, this is no easy feat! I don't want the site to be about anything specific. I don't want to limit the potential it has for a multitude of topics!!! So, to answer the question, this blog is about anything and everything that I feel could be a jumping-off point for any intelligent discussion.

I'm just looking for like-minded individuals with whom to share my ideas. You can look forward to more posts in the future, provided I remember to actually maintain the site :)

Thanks for reading, and feel free to post any comments! Maybe you could suggest some future topics or something. Or we could just chat.
