The other day, I was having a random discussion on facebook with my friend Cassidy (shout out!). We covered a plethora of topics in the short time we talked. One of the things we talked about was how one of her friends was trying to get her to work at The Tilted Kilt, a restaurant in Lincoln. I went to the website and told her she shouldn't get a job there because she'd have to be tan all the time, and I didn't want her to use a tanning booth and risk getting skin cancer.
She said, "Yeah, I don't wanna use a tanning booth. I wish I was naturally tan and skinny. Then I'd be makin bank! lol"
To which I replied, "Yeah, being pale can be hard. And all the minorities are complaining like it's not tough to be white! lol"
And we laughed, and laughed. We decided we should write a strongly worded letter about it, but ain't nobody got time fo dat! So this is as close as it's gonna get!
So, take note: being pale can be hard too. I get made fun of on a regular basis for being white, but mostly for being very, very pale. It probably happens more often to me than most pale people because I live in a predominantly Hispanic part of Omaha (South O rules!!!!!).
In conclusion, it's not our fault we're so white. It's just our genetic makeup. Going in, nobody decides what color they're going to be, so back up off. Also, South Omaha is the best Omaha, no question about it! I have no regrets :)
Huzzah for naturally tan people with a white mother! I get the best of both worlds...again, conceeding, what is happening to me?! ;-3
ReplyDeleteSome of us aren't so lucky. Some of us aren't ethnically ambiguous, so we're still struggling.
DeleteHa, I don't know. You're changing, man!!
The world, brotha...
ReplyDeleteHahaha!
By the way, when I checked Pinterest today, half my homepage was filled with Duck Dynasty-ness that you had posted. :D Made me smile.
I went a little overboard with it; I couldn't help myself! But I'm glad I made you smile :D
