Stop, Collaborate, and Listen

I like that my blog posts always start with something about how I never update it. It's seriously been a little over a month now.

I've got a few good topics to discuss though; however, I might break it all up in order to create more entries.

On the list of things to examine:
~Hot button topics (gay marriage, guns, etc.)?
~The human potential
~The North and South Omaha communities (might be held off until the blog gets more traffic)
~Old Hollywood/the golden age of cinema, ie. the large depletion of truly talented legends
~Things I've always liked that have now magically come into vogue
~What I want to get out of life, and possibly out of this blog

Tell me what you'd like to get to first. I'd really like this to gain some momentum so we can at least try get it all out there.

I don't take good care of this blog

I'm beginning to think that creating this blog was a pretty pointless endeavor. I always forget to check up on it and make new posts. It doesn't get many views, even when I post links to it on other websites, and since there is little traffic, there are few comments.

What shall I do? Give up and call it a day? Nope, I think I'll just keep on truckin. I need to brainstorm some ideas for better posts, and get a camera to post some fabulous pictures.

Rest assured, I'll still be here even when this blog is a complete and utter failure, outcast to a fate far worse than whatever is going on with it now. Share with your friends... I'm essentially talking to myself, and I sound like a crazy person. But it made me laugh :D

Talkin bout my generation

Coolness points awarded to anyone who understands the reference in the title. (I need to get around to making an actual system for this.)

Well, I was doing some profound thinking. I've come to the conclusion that my generation is not cohesive. We essentially have nothing that gives us a common bond. There's nowhere to go and just hang around, not that anyone would want to go there anyway- everyone is too busy spending all their time glued to the screens of various electronics. My generation has no hobbies; it's just tv, music, internet, cell phones... All the time! For the love of God, get out of the house and socialize. I know it's awkward because you've lost any inkling of social skills and communication skills you may have once possessed, but it really isn't that hard.

On the other hand, we are in an era where someone can have nearly infinite knowledge just by pressing a button. This is the first time that people can be so quickly and completely informed about the world around them, the issues, the events. And they choose to spend their time arguing with strangers and looking at funny pictures. How lovely.

With the advent of so much technology, many people of my generation actually do choose to educate themselves (hooray!). But then we deal with the issue of being counted out of society. Most of the world disregards the viewpoints of teens and young adults, and that's bad, mmkay? That's one reason why we're not cohesive. We see what's going on in the world, with politics, with the environment, and we'd like to change it. We'd like to, but we don't know how. I feel like we want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, something that we can be a part of and contribute to. We don't have any star power to help us out either; I don't know if you've really seen celebrities nowadays, but most of them are not to be looked up to.

I'd like to at least try to do something, but I'm really just talking to myself here, and my buddy Salimah, because this blog needs more traffic, and it definitely needs more people to post comments!!! *hint hint*
So here we are, we could spring into action at any moment... I could become the voice that moves a thousand bodies...... If you share this blog with your friends :)

Looky here, looky here!

Hello errybody.

I just wanted to take some time and talk about something very trivial, but extremely awesome. There are nine days left until the season premiere of Duck Dynasty!!!!! It's the third season of the show on A&E, and I am so excited- as you could probably tell from all those exclamation points up there.

If you haven't seen it yet, you can click on the Duck Dynasty link and watch full episodes. I encourage everyone to watch this show. First of all, it's absolutely hilarious. Secondly, it's a reality show that isn't ridiculously stupid. I like it because you can tell it's a real family, and that's how a real family would act. They don't let their affluence and newfound fame get to there heads; although I have questioned some money-related things. They couldn't possibly have had that much land growing up if they used to be so poor. Also, in an episode where they're trying to obtain some wild honey, they go through all sorts of methods to get rid of the bees. If they're such big outdoorsmen, how is it that only one person knew to blow a little smoke?
But I digress. It's got a good message, and it's a family show; anyone can watch it. I don't think I've ever heard one cuss word in it either. There are innumerable pearls of wisdom from the patriarch, Phil, and the show has so many great one liners!!! It does involve the family's religious activities (they pray before their big dinner meal), but I don't think it should bother anyone, and if it does.... Oh well, you're missing out on a great show!

Some catch phrases from the show

Overall, I'd say it's one of the best shows on television, and I love everyone in it. And if you think most reality shows are scripted, take solace in knowing that no one would ever be able to script anything that Si Robertson says. Ever.

It's been awhile, hasn't it?

Sorry for the short hiatus, but I've been pretty busy lately (surprisingly).

Let's see, what's some news-worthy stuff you're probably sick of hearing about... The Pope resigned, first pope in about 600 years to do that, catholic population now in uncharted waters, blah blah blah. Did they really need to devote almost half an hour of the world news to that? And then there was so much time devoted to it in the local news. Then it was on the cover of the newspaper. Give it a rest! He's in his mid-eighties, it's only natural that a person that old would retire from their job. He wants the church to prosper, not flounder, and he feels he can't do that in his failing health. Get over it, please.

Here's a change of pace for you now. Did you know that in 2010, Congress got about 23 weeks worth of vacation time? What!!! Did you know they get a whole week off for Presidents Day? Yes, starting on Feb. 18th, they get that entire week off.... School-age kids get one day off, I get no days off, and Congress gets a whole week... I feel like all I ever hear about is how much vacation they get. And they're supposed to be coming up with a fix for the financial crisis before March 1st, so we can avert sequestration. You would think they might want to concentrate on that before they go on vacation. By the way, why is it that they have a break every time there's a deadline they're supposed to meet? I find that just a little suspicious. You know, there's a little part of me that hopes the country goes into huge crisis, over the fiscal cliff, if you will. Maybe then people will start to realize how truly messed up our government is, and we can try to change it.

This brings me to my next point. I found this petition from the likes of Minnesota senator, Al Franken. If you don't know who that is, I implore you, look it up. Anyway, it's a petition to get rid of the Citizens United court decision that essentially gave the right of "corporate personhood", the idea that corporations are people too, and can give campaign contributions to politician. Thus effectively letting businesses buy our government. Yeah, that's a great idea. So, the concept of the petition is to create a constitutional amendment to overturn the court decision, and put the power back into the hands of the actual people, not the corporate people. I encourage you to sign it, as the idea of "corporate personhood" is total bull.

I think I've covered enough topics here. Until next time, have a beautiful day :)

Happy Groundhog Day

I'm a day late, but I had to work yesterday, so lay off. Anyway, yesterday was Groundhog Day, and Phil didn't see his shadow. Supposedly, it will be an early spring. Actually, spring might just come early like it did last year, since we're in a severe drought.

In honor of the holiday, AMC was playing the movie Groundhog Day all day. Of course I had to watch it. It's got Bill Murray in it for goodness' sake! Not to mention, it's a pretty hilarious movie. I love how he spends all his time taking up hobbies and cultivating his skills. He gets so good at playing the piano, he learns how to carve ice, it's awesome. He even punches Ned Ryerson in the face!

But I digress. It got me to thinking, and I'd like to ask you something. If you were in a situation where you had unlimited time, no consequences, and you didn't age, how would you spend your time? What would you do?

I would probably go the route that Phil did, and start taking up hobbies or working on my current ones. God knows I have about a million things I'd love to learn or improve upon. I'd work on my knitting, I'd learn how to sew and crochet as well. I would most definitely learn how to twirl a baton. I'd learn how to play the piano. Just think of how many books you could read!!! More than likely, I'd start taking dance classes for ballet and tap. Maybe I'd even work on my marksmanship, and there's always a little time for fishing.

So, how would you pass the days? Do something constructive or rob a bank? Or both, considering there are no consequences.

And remember folks, don't drive angry!

Quite a Random Conversation

The other day, I was having a random discussion on facebook with my friend Cassidy (shout out!). We covered a plethora of topics in the short time we talked. One of the things we talked about was how one of her friends was trying to get her to work at The Tilted Kilt, a restaurant in Lincoln. I went to the website and told her she shouldn't get a job there because she'd have to be tan all the time, and I didn't want her to use a tanning booth and risk getting skin cancer.

She said, "Yeah, I don't wanna use a tanning booth. I wish I was naturally tan and skinny. Then I'd be makin bank! lol"
To which I replied, "Yeah, being pale can be hard. And all the minorities are complaining like it's not tough to be white! lol"

And we laughed, and laughed. We decided we should write a strongly worded letter about it, but ain't nobody got time fo dat! So this is as close as it's gonna get!

So, take note: being pale can be hard too. I get made fun of on a regular basis for being white, but mostly for being very, very pale. It probably happens more often to me than most pale people because I live in a predominantly Hispanic part of Omaha (South O rules!!!!!).

In conclusion, it's not our fault we're so white. It's just our genetic makeup. Going in, nobody decides what color they're going to be, so back up off. Also, South Omaha is the best Omaha, no question about it! I have no regrets :)
